The temporal lobe serves as our brain's 'visual library' . Images arriving from the occipital lobe are transmitted here via the ventral stream and compared against millions of stored visual records. If the incoming image matches a record in the library, 'recognition' occurs. It is through this system that we are able to recognize faces, objects, shapes, and the routes we have previously traveled.
